The hall was opened in August 1925 and became a registered charity in 1963.
Originally used by the miners and their families, a number of social events including dances, beetle drives and bingo
has taken place here over the years as well it being used as a base during the miners strike.
Once the colliery closed, the activities in the hall slowed down and in late 2003 the hall suffered a few problems.
Four new trustees decided to take the building over in early 2004 to try and bring it back to it's former social glory and through sheer determination and hard work the hall is now thriving with events taking place such as children's parties, fundraisers, dances etc
As well as the events we host, the hall is used by an advice centre, a dance centre, the local council and more. More information of the groups that are based here is available on the website.
In April 2007, the hall became a limited company.
Also in 2007, the hall commissioned a painting of Thurcroft Colliery as viewed from Pit Lane to commemorate the mining history of the village. The painting was done by Phil, an artist from Barnsley, Addison Day Centre and a group of young people from the village
